From the Publisher:

“Do you sometimes feel as if you’re just going through the motions in life? Are you good at looking and acting as if you’re fine, but secretly feel lonely and disconnected? If so, you are not alone. The world is full of people who have an innate sense that something is wrong with them. Who feel they live on the outside looking in, but have no explanation for their feeling and no way to put it into words.
If you are one of these people, you may fear that you are not connected enough to your spouse, or that you don’t feel pleasure or love as profoundly as others do. You may drink too much, or eat too much, or risk too much, in an attempt to feel something good.
Running on Empty will give you clear strategies for how to heal, and offers a special chapter for mental health professionals. In the world of human suffering, this book is an Emotional Smart Bomb meant to eradicate the effects of an invisible enemy.”

My recording experience:
I think I always turn into a bit of a hypochondriac when I narrate self help or medical books.  I end up feeling like I have the problem.  But I guess that is part of immersing myself in the subject matter!  In any case, if any part of Webb‘s description of Emotional Neglect resonates with you, you might find this book of use, as it is both insightful and practical.

I’d love a chance to win this. One of my Facebook friends posted an article about Running on Empty, and I’m really interested in listening to the book, as the description really resonated with me.
I do know what you mean about the hypochondriac thing, though–I’m one of those people that Googles every mild cold symptom and arrives at the worst possible outcome.

As a first generation Asian American, I had a seemingly great life and am doing just fine. But emotionally I felt like something was always off. I checked off way too many items on Jonice Webb’s Emotional Neglect questionnaire. Would love to read more about it and learn about the roots of my distress.

  13. Michelle Moore says:

I just came across your article last night and it was an ah-ha moment for sure. I’d love the audiobook.

  14. Michelle L. Johnson says:

While searching the Internet for help with apotentially manipulative relationship, I came across your book, with the test (questionnaire) for emotional neglect, and felt so vindicated … as if I’d just experienced an “Ah-ha! Moment!” Oh what a relief, to know that i am not crazy, after all. Please let me win a copy of your book. Thank you.

What a great idea, to have an audio book give-away! I’m an auditory learner and love to listen to valuable material as I relax in the evening before bedtime. I’m a marriage and family therapist and know that this material would benefit many once I ingest the information, connect it to my own circumstances, and then share it with clients in my practice.
Thanks for the opportunity to enter this “give-away”!

    1. kewhite says:

So sorry Janine but you just missed the deadline for this giveaway. I do them all the time, though, so keep an eye out for other chances.
