SWEET LITTLE LIES by Jill Shalvis plus GIVEAWAY
Heartbreaker Bay #1
Available now from Harper Audio.
From the Publisher:
“Choose the one guy you can’t have . . .
As captain of a San Francisco Bay tour boat, Pru can handle rough seas—the hard part is life on dry land. Pru loves her new apartment and her neighbors; problem is, she’s in danger of stumbling into love with Mr. Right for Anybody But Her.
Fall for him—hard . . .
Pub owner Finn O’Riley is six-foot-plus of hard-working hottie who always makes time for his friends. When Pru becomes one of them, she discovers how amazing it feels to be on the receiving end of that deep green gaze. But when a freak accident involving darts (don’t ask) leads to shirtless first aid, things rush way past the friend zone. Fast.
And then tell him the truth.
Pru only wants Finn to be happy; it’s what she wishes for at the historic fountain that’s supposed to grant her heart’s desire. But wanting him for herself is a different story—because Pru’s been keeping a secret that could change everything. . . .”
From the review at AudioGals:
“How many ways can I say that Karen White is a terrific narrator for contemporary romance? Let me count the ways! Her tone is conversational and the pacing is completely natural. She has comic timing that matches Shalvis’ prose to perfection, and hey – she gets to voice another cute animal! Her character voices are well-developed, with differentiation in many ways, including timbre, range and acting/attitude, and it’s always clear which one is speaking. It always sounds like she’s having fun reading! I left the book feeling happy (that’s always my goal) – it was a great opening to a new series and the perfect summer listen!”
From the review at Reading Between the Wines Bookclub:
“SWEET LITTLE LIES is narrated by Karen White. She is hands-down one of my very favorite narrators. I’ve gotten to where I’ll try just about anything she voices and I’ve discovered new favorite authors because she narrated their works. The pairing of Jill Shalvis and Karen White is nothing short of exquisiteness. Karen’s voice is clear. She seamlessly differentiates between characters. Her pacing is right on and her tones and inflections are perfection! She really nails the humor, charm and sassiness that are inherent in Jill’s writing. If you haven’t listened to one of Karen’s performances, I highly recommend that you do… soon!”
From the review at Bookfan:
“Karen White did a fine job with the narration. I liked how she voiced each character and I had no trouble determining who was speaking. One particular scene involving a character who experienced possible food-poisoning had me laughing – all thanks to White’s delivery and Shalvis’s words, of course.”
From the review at Books, Movies, Reviews Oh My:
“Karen White as become one of my favorite narrators this year and so I will pretty much give anything she narrates a try. “
From the review at The Book Nympho:
“Karen White delivered another noteworthy performance with Sweet Little Lies. Karen does a fine job with the pacing of the story, delivers the characters with distinctions and adding just the right inflections and tones where they are needed.”
From the review at The Geeky Blogger:
“Karen and Jill make a fantastic team. I think she really nails the humor and quirk that Jill has in her writing. She brings out a character’s charm and sass which are staples in Jill’s stories. I highly recommend this on audio!”
From the review at Straight Shootin’ Book Reviews:
“I’ve been a fan of Karen White’s narration since first listening to her reading of Julie James FBI/Attorney series. Shortly after that I started picking up Jill Shalvis’s Animal Magnetism series, also narrated by Ms. White. She’s now a go-to narrator for me, so I was thrilled to see that she’d be working with this series from Jill Shalvis as well. I listened to the audiobook a few months after reading the digital copy I got for review, and as always it’s very enjoyable to listen to the combination of Jill Shalvis’s words and Karen White’s voice. Ms. White differentiates the male and female characters with ease, and similarly, imbues each of the individual voices with their own nuances so that it’s easy to follow along with the story and know who is speaking. The right pacing and appropriate inflection is so important when narrating an audiobook and the most successful make it look (and sound) natural. It was just as good listening to the story as it was reading it the first time around. I’m looking forward to listening to more of this series in the future!”
My recording experience:
Many people love Jill Shalvis’ books because they make you laugh. Her books do make me laugh, a lot. Her descriptions of situations, or the way she puts words together are often something you’d never think of while knowing exactly what she’s talking about at the same time. Phrases like “her mouth really needed to meet her brain sometime” or “he was her unicorn” make me laugh, and totally understand where this character is coming from. But Jill also makes me feel deeply for her characters, and I am so excited about this series because not only did I fall for Pru and Finn, but for their collection of friends. Which of course makes it hard to wait for the next books in the series…
