From the Publisher:

“Divorce lawyer Victoria Slade has seen enough unhappy endings to swear off marriage forever. That doesn’t mean she’s opposed to casual dating—just not with her cocky new neighbor, who is as gorgeous and tempting as he is off-limits. But once she agrees to take on his sister’s case, she’s as determined to win as ever—even if that means teaming up with Ford…
Investigative journalist Ford Dixon is bent on finding the man who got his sister pregnant and left her high and dry. He’s willing to partner with Victoria, despite the fact that the beautiful brunette gets under his skin like no other woman. Still, the more time he spends with Victoria, the more he realizes that the one woman as skeptical about love as he is might be the only woman he could really fall for…”

From the AudioFile Magazine review:

“Karen White’s emotional narration brings out the vulnerability and passion behind a divorce lawyer’s untouchable facade. In spite of her jaded view on relationships, Victoria Spade finds herself falling for neighbor Ford Dixon when they join forces to track down the father of Dixon’s sister’s baby. White effectively sets up Spade’s cool, tough exterior with crisp speech that falters when Spade battles her anxiety attacks. As Dixon, White depicts a sensitive stud who’s playful yet has a serious side. White’s tone and range of voices effectively capture each character’s personality and create a dynamic flow. Her performance especially shines in her perfectly timed delivery of the sexual intensity between Dixon and Spade.”

From the AudioGals review:

“Karen White’s narration embodies all of the characters perfectly, as usual, giving distinct voice to both men and women, so that it’s easy to distinguish all the characters and follow the story. Her pacing is so natural that she could be making up the story as she goes – very relaxed and clear. OK, there was one time near the end that she said “Ryan” when I thought it should have been Victoria’s best friend Rachel, but I don’t have the print book so I’m not sure what she meant – was that Rachel’s last name? A typo? Other than that, her narration was as wonderful as ever, catching and delivering the dry humor as well as the pathos perfectly. She evokes the male characters with a slightly lower pitch, but also uses timbre and accents to differentiate them not just from the females but from each other, as there are several scenes with Ford and his two male best friends. And she delivers the love scenes with enough emotion that you sense the heat – but not so much that you feel like a voyeur!”

From the review at The Book Nympho:

“I really liked the story, Ford and Victoria, the romance, the secondary storyline and the audio performance. It reminded me of a well done romantic comedy that was perfectly cast. I’m also glad that I chose to listen to it versus reading the eBook as it just iced a really nice book experience.”

My recording experience:
As many of you know, Julie‘s book JUST THE SEXIEST MAN ALIVE was my very first romance audiobook, and I’ve been lucky enough to record every one of her books since then.  So I was so excited to meet Julie last summer at RWA, where we had a lovely lunch and chatted about all kinds of things, but that was when I learned that Ford was going to be the hero of the next book. (He’s Brooke of LOVE, IRRESISTIBLY‘s best friend.)  I’d had such a blast with him and his two sidekicks Charlie and Tucker that I was looking forward to this one even more than usual. And I wasn’t disappointed.  Julie has managed to take on some serious backstory subjects for both leads without losing her sense of humor.  I was all over the map emotionally with this one, and I hope listeners will be, too!

  1. Lee Fries says:

I don’t think much about what season I am reading in. Sometimes it is fun to read a “winter” or holiday story in the heat to Texas summer. Sometimes I like a beach read in the midst of holiday madness!

  2. I was late to discover Julie’s books and have been devouring them, on audio, of course! The only books that I like to read “in season” are Christmas books. Thanks for the giveaway.

  3. Lucy says:

I do tend to read by the season! Though I’m not opposed to reading a beach novel in January (it’s always sunny where I live) Thanks for the great giveaway!

  4. For the right book I will read/listen to a book in any season!!!

  5. Mary C. says:

The season isn’t a deciding factor when I read or listen to a book

  6. Barbara Dodde says:

I read books in any season, and I’m the mother of Literate Housewife!

    1. kewhite says:

Ha! Nice to “meet” you Mrs. LH 🙂 Your daughter is a delight.

  7. Hi Karen,
I don’t have a preference for reading a story set in the time of year that I’m reading it. It’s kind of refreshing to be immersed in wintery conditions when it’s 100+ degrees outside. Same for dreaming about warm spring/summer weather in the middle of February!
I absolutely love your partnership with Julie James! She writes funny entertaining stories about flawed beautiful, intelligent characters. Your narration is the coup de grace! Flawless match up! Exciting giveaway. Thank you!

  8. I’m all about reading seasonally – adds to the reality of the story ‘s experiential aspect. but doesn’t stop me accomplishing other reading list books at hand 🙂 congrats on consistent narrating your favs – well done!

  9. Amy B says:

I will gladly read a summer book in winter. It helps me escape the dreaded cold. But I’m not sure if I’d do the opposite. I’ll hold on to my dreams of nicer weather, thanks.

  10. KV says:

I like to read books of any season all year round.

I like reading books of any season year round.

  12. I do like to listen to Christmas books around Christmas but other than that I listen to any season books any time!

  13. kewhite says:

I’m loving all these points of view. I recorded this book in the spring and it had me longing for long summer days. I do love a good summery book to read at the beach myself. But I agree that an opposite season book can be a welcome escape when a season is in it’s extreme. I will never forget listening to THE LONG WINTER by Laura Ingalls Wilder while on a road trip in 95 degree heat and asking for the AC to be turned off because the story made be feel so chilled!

  14. Peggy Sparrenberger says:

For the contest– I do not care what the season is when reading a book. Although I tend to read more Christmas themed books around Christmas. But I think that is because more Christmas themed books are promoted at that time of year.

  15. Ana f. says:

Season doesn’t matter when I’m reading books I’ll read anything anytime.

  16. Helen Loyal says:

I prefer to keep Christmas reads seasonal, but apart from that, it’s anything goes for me!

  17. Cynthia N says:

Seasons don’t matter to me when I’m reading a book except for Christmas. I like to read those books the months right around Christmas.

  18. Diana Silva says:

i’m in a reading slump right now but I love reading all the time. It’s my “break”

  19. Susana says:

I love listening to audio books anytime! Especially just after I have read the book. I find I pick up a new detail I somehow missed or even imagine the scene different. Just finished this great read and would love to experience the audio version! Pick me!! Pick me!!!

  20. Maritza M says:

hmm. I haven’t actually noticed, but after looking at my purchases I would say no. 🙂

  21. Susan Dougherty says:

It doesn’t matter to me about matching the seasons, but I agree with the people who said they like to read Christmas books around Christmas.

  22. carrienichols says:

It doesn’t really matter to me. Although I do prefer Christmas ones around the holiday.
