From the Publisher:
“After a humiliating end to her engagement, investment banker Sidney Sinclair is done with commitment-phobic men. But when her sister winds up engaged after a whirlwind courtship, Sidney is thrown into close contact with exactly the kind of sexy playboy she wants to avoid—the gorgeous best man. She’s stuck with him, for better or worse, until her sister walks down the aisle, but that doesn’t mean she has to give in to his smooth advances, no matter how tempting they are . . .
Special agent Vaughn Roberts always gets his man on the job and his woman in bed. So Sidney’s refusal to fall for his charms only makes him more determined to win over the cool and confident redhead. Only what starts out as a battle of wills ends up as a serious play for her heart. Because the one woman who refuses to be caught may be the only one Vaughn can’t live without. “
“Julie James writes some of the best contemporary romances out there. Her characters are real, charming, and witty and her writing flows so beautifully. Karen White knows James’ writing well and nails the comedic timing perfect every time.”
From the review at Speaking of Audio:
“When it comes to contemporary romance (my favorite sub-genre), there are few authors who write it as well as Julie James. Paired with narrator Karen White (who has narrated all of her books), her audiobooks are both fabulous and BIG fun….Karen has perfected the art of performing contemporary romance and knows how to make the most of each situation and I find myself laughing out loud as she serves up the humor just right. As with each of Julie James’ audiobooks, I was delighted all over again.”
From the review at All About Romance:
“There’s so much to love here. One of Ms. James’ hallmarks is fantastic dialog. It’s funny, sarcastic, and always feels real, thanks both to Ms. James’ writing and Ms. White’s narration. Ms. White performs each character distinctly in a manner that is both age and gender specific. But what I really like is that she doesn’t do it by turning their voices into annoying caricatures to emphasize the difference. This is especially important as there are numerous scenes between Vaughn and his brother and between Sidney and her sister. I never questioned who was speaking, and quickly learned to associate the sound of each with the appropriate character.
Julie James and Karen White are every bit as perfect a match as Vaughn and Sidney, and I look forward to many more audiobook collaborations from them in the future. Thoroughly delightful, I not only will listen to It Happened One Weddingagain, I’ve already listened again.”
From the AudioGals review:
“Once again, Karen White’s dead-on delivery enhances an already A+ level story. She gives it just the right dry tone for Sidney’s sarcasm, and voices the youthful exuberance of Sidney’s sister and Vaughn’s brother, so in love Sidney wonders when woodland animals will start winding around their ankles in tribute to Disney cartoons… I laughed, I cried, I fell in love with them all. Thank you, Julie and Karen, for making my whole weekend. Maybe my whole year.”
“Karen White delivered a great performance. I do believe I’ve found another author/narrator team to add to my auto buy list.”
From the Eargasms Audiobook Review:
“I listened to the audiobook narrated by Karen White, who brings extra heat to the naughty bits. She has great voices that are consistent and distinct. This book she gets the added challenge of an Irish accent with the mom. She does a fabulous job as always with the energy and flow of the read. I can always depend on her to add emotion to the key points and urgency to the hot and heavy scenes.”
My recording experience:
Those of you who know me know I can go on and on about how much I love recording Julie’s fabulously funny and heartfelt contemporary romances. But what I don’t talk about so much perhaps is how much Julie challenges me. Her books always have a veritable herd of male characters, a workout for the vocal cords in and of itself. And then they keep coming back! In IHOW there was a scene where ALL the former heroes are in one room – a lot of testosterone to convey and keep track of. (And there’s one guy who makes an appearance in the book that Julie James fans who have read all of her books — hint, hint– will be tickled by.)
I think what was particularly well done in IHOW in particular is the progression of the relationship. Both Sidney and Vaughan are so resistant to allowing it to happen. Their attitudes make complete sense when you know their backstories — so even if they seem like a prickly pill and a slick player to begin with, you get why they are the way they are and how they can grow enough to see outside of this POV to new possibilities. This whole arc was just a joy to record.
