A Lot Like Love by Julie James
“THE FBI WANTS HER COOPERATION.
As the daughter of a billionaire and the owner of the city’s top wine store, Jordan Rhodes is invited to the most exclusive parties in Chicago. But there’s only one party the FBI wants to crash: the charity fundraiser of a famous restaurateur, who also happens to launder money for the mob. In exchange for her brother’s release from prison, Jordan is going to be there—with a date supplied by the Bureau.
AGENT MCCALL JUST WANTS HER.
As the top undercover agent in Chicago, Nick McCall has one rule: never get personal. This “date” with Jordan Rhodes is merely an assignment—one they’re both determined to pull off even if they can’t be together for five minutes before the sarcasm and sparks begin to fly. But when Nick’s investigation is compromised, he and Jordan have no choice but to pretend they’re a couple, and what starts out as a simple assignment begins to feel a lot like something more. . .”
From the review at Reading Between the Wines Bookclub:
“Karen White performs this audio. Simply put, if you have not listened to one of her productions, you are missing out. Every word, every pause, every inflection, i.e, the whole package comprises a polished, precise, and engaging listen. I know I’m fan-girling, but Karen’s works deserve it as they are all pure vocal magic. Pick one up and check her out!”
“I listened to the audiobook narrated by the fabulous Karen White. She always manages to add energy and emotion to the read at just the right moments. Her voices are consistent and distinct. I love a swift pace and she really delivers. She always gives me happy ears!”
My thoughts on narrating A Lot Like Love:
I was so honored that author Julie James requested that I narrate this series when Tantor picked up the audio rights. I’d loved her sense of humor and smart heroine in Just the Sexiest Man Alive, and I’d already read this book for fun when it came out last year.
Besides the “not quite sarcastic” tone of Julie’s books, her heroines have struggles I can relate to. They are career women who have succeeded by being strong-mined and independent, but when a man comes along that makes them weak in the knees and heart, they have to figure out how to balance the desire to enter into a relationship with the life they’ve already made for themselves. Plus Jordan Rhodes appreciates fine food and wine, which I love, too. My mouth is watering in more ways than one when I’m reading her books 😉
