Jill Shalvis Interview and Giveaway!

Jill, the Brave

Please join me in welcoming author Jill Shalvis to Home Cooked Books.  She has bravely agreed to be my “virgin” interviewee!

Romance Reviews Today calls her books “heartwarming, humorous, passionate and sometimes profound”
and I think they’ve got it exactly and succinctly right.  I’ve loved narrating the first two books in the ANIMAL MAGNETISM series and can’t wait to read the third, as Jill makes my work so easy.  Great, realistic dialogue, feisty fun female characters and male characters that…inspire.

OK, on to the interview!

Me:  As an animal lover myself, I love that you’ve created a romance series built around a group of animal lovers.  What or who inspired this group of people?

JS:  I wanted to write a book with cute animals that I could use as comic relief and also add heart and soul to the story.

Speaking of cute animals, my mutt Elsa with her current squeeze, Colbert

Me:  I know you’re a working mom, as I am.  How do you balance your working days with your responsibilities as a wife and mother?

JS:  This is a tough one.  I just do the best I can to work when the kids and husband are gone, and to be a wife and mother when they’re around.  Doesn’t always work out but I think it’s good for the kids to see that mom has a responsibilities and a life outside the home anyway.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s not easy.  In fact, it’s downright hard and sometimes messy.  And we don’t always have clean socks or homemade meals.  :)

Me:  Oh.  That reminds me, I have to throw in a load of laundry.  Be right back – talk amongst yourselves

…or listen to this sample of ANIMAL ATTRACTION!

Me:  OK, I’m back.  Obviously, humor is as important as romance in your writing.  Is this true in your life as well?

JS:  Absolutely.  But it’s a lot easier to be funny in my books than to find it in real life sometimes!

Me:  When did blogging become part of your work as an author?  How is writing for your blog different for you than writing novels?

JS:  I don’t think of the blogging as work.  Writing is a lonely profession.  I started blogging to have company in this world I picked.  It’s different than my books because it’s real life.  And my books are all pure fantasy.

Me:  Of the three hunks in this brotherhood, Brady, Dell, and Adam, which is your favorite, and why?

JS:  Hands down Adam.  I don’t know why.  I LOVED Brady when I was writing him.  I LOVED Dell when I was writing him.  I’m now writing Adam and he’s currently my fave. :)

Now why does she like Adam best?

Me:  I know you’ve had some of your other books produced in audio.  Was there anything surprising in the process for you?

JS:  As an author, we’re entirely left out of the audio process. But I LOVE audio books.

Me:  Well that about says it all, I think.  And that takes us to the GIVEAWAY portion of our program!  Thanks for stopping by!

Jill's dog, Frat Boy. I think he and Elsa need to meet.
